Ukrainian photographer Mykhailo Dorohovich’s project about the culture of Transcarpathia won silver at the New York Photography Awards.
Mykhailo Dorohovich made a series of photographs of Transcarpathians in national dress and everyday life. The Ukrainian photographer’s project took second place in the People Photography/Culture nomination.
The inhabitants of Transcarpathia are different ethnic groups: Ukrainians, Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, Germans, Jews. They were able to inherit extraordinary wealth, which has been preserved in folk life, clothes and fabrics, and pottery.
“The unique cultural heritage of the peoples of Transcarpathia” will tell you about the incredible wealth of the poorest region, which currently abuts four European borders, the beauty and spiritual wealth of the Transcarpathians, the work of craftsmen, everyday life, pride and withering, but still living flowers,” says the project description Ukrainian photographer.
